The history of Seafare is an inspiring story about what can happen when you mix hard work, honesty, faith, and a little bit of luck in a pot and give it a good stir!
The story begins in 1988, when my parents, Sam and Athina Karos, opened the Outer Banks Restaurant in Murrells Inlet, and brought the first upscale seafood buffet to the Myrtle Beach area.  In 1989, Hurricane Hugo completely destroyed the restaurant. Mom and Dad moved one mile north into one of the few remaining undamaged buildings and renamed their restaurant the Seafare. They reopened on November 21, 1989.  Seafare enjoyed tremendous growth over the years, and in 2000 my parents decided to open a second location in Surfside Beach.  In 2004 the second location was completely renovated, and the original location closed for good.
When my parents retired from the business in 2005, I took over.  Now my wife, Nicole, and I operate one of the most unique and long-standing restaurants on the Grand Strand.
Seafare has continually been at the forefront of buffet restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area, introducing many unique and often copied ideas, including:

-The first upscale seafood buffet in the Myrtle Beach area.  While other buffets focus on the Calabash style of cooking (breaded and deep fried seafood), Seafare pioneered offering baked, broiled, steamed and raw seafood choices on the buffet—truly a gourmet buffet.
-Unique dishes not found on other area buffets: Jumbo stuffed shrimp, Seafood Strudel, Shrimp Creole, and Mediterranean Spice rubbed Mahi-Mahi are just a few you won’t find anywhere else.
-The first raw bar offered on a buffet
-The first kid friendly buffet—there is a whole section of buffet dedicated to pleasing our youngest guests.
-The only area buffet restaurant recognized and recommended by Southern Living Magazine, not once but twice!  (In 2000 and 2006)
-The only restaurant in the area with Live Swimming Mermaids in an indoor lagoon!  This awesome attraction will have young and old talking for days.
-The only pirate themed restaurant in the area with pirates serving you. You haven’t lived until you’ve heard our pirates sing the special Seafare Birthday Song!
-The only seafood buffet in the area that has a “pay at the door” policy.  We understand that families have better things to do in Myrtle Beach than wait for hours to eat dinner.  At Seafare, you pay for your buffet meals and beverages when you come in, are seated promptly, and can get right down to the good part—eating crablegs!  When your family is done eating, you can leave.  No more waiting for a server to bring you a check.  No more waiting for change or to sign a credit card slip.  We want families back out there enjoying the area attractions. This policy allows us to serve thousands of guests daily more quickly and efficiently than ever before, with MUCH shorter waiting times than at other buffet restaurants.

For nearly 20 years, Seafare has brought families together for an unforgettable dining experience.  Our pledge is to offer the freshest, highest quality products in a lively and unique setting.

My family and I hope to see you soon!

-Stephen Karos
